Lesson Plans for the Week of October 8th

October 8-12, 2018

Monday:  Review Chemical Vocabulary and begin The Properties of Water.  Students will be introduce to the Structure of Water, Properties of Water and The Three States of Matter of Water

Vocabulary Words for homework:  surface tension, solvent, specific heat, evaporation, and condensation.

Tuesday:  Review vocabulary homework and watch video on the Importance of Water and the Ways it is Used.

Wednesday:  Begin Unit Review:Survey of Chemistry Chapter 4 in Textbook.  Go over Study Guide with the students.  (Study Guide is on page 146 of the student's book.)  Review the parts of the atom and how to calculate the protons, neutrons, and electrons.  

Thursday:  Complete the Review and Assessment in Class.  Page 147 in students textbook.

Friday:  Go over study guide, review orally in class, and SOL review.

I normally do not give homework on the weekends, but the students will have their test on Monday.

FIELD TRIPS FORMS DUE September 18TH.    TOUR DE PARK FIELD TRIP   SEPTEMBER 25TH.

Monday:  Return International Standards Test (Metric Table) and go over measurement using scientific instruments worksheets.  Check for understanding.

Tuesday: Complete Worksheet on Measurements using Scientific Instruments.

6.1  Scientific Investigation will be continued and reinforced the entire school year.

WednesdayIntroduce 6.4 Standard of Learning  Matter   The student will investigate and understand that all matter is made up of atoms. 

Chapter 4 Lesson 1  Atoms, Elements, and Compounds

Vocabulary:  matter      elements     protons     neutrons    electrons

chemical bond        molecule      compound

Thursday:  Review vocabulary and introduce the Periodic Table of Elements.

Give each student a copy and discuss the key and how to read the table.  Play the Element  Song.

Friday:  Continue working  with the Periodic Table of Elements and discuss their project.  Model or Poster of an Element.  Discuss Rubric for Project.

FIELD TRIP:  TOUR DE PARK  September 25th  Please return permission forms as soon as possible.

Monday:  Review Scientific Method and introduce Metric SI Table.  Return Quizzes.  

Tuesday:  International Standards of Measurements and reinforcement of 6.1.

Wednesday:  Substitute   Reinforcement of SI measurements and their instruments.

Thursday:  Review SI units using the ELMO and a deck of cards.

Friday:  International Standard Metric Table Test   Instrument Worksheet Reinforcement.

Monday:  Labor Day  No school!

Tuesday:  Return Vocabulary Quiz and begin Lesson 3 Answering Scientific Questions  Student's Textbook page 20   What are Scientific Theories and Laws?Complete Review and Assessment orally in class.  Complete Virginia SOL Test Prep for Homework.  Students may use books.  Write only the letter for each question.

Wednesday:  Binder Check  (2x) grades.  It is very important that the students learn to organize their notebooks and keep up with their work.  Go over homework and check for understanding.

Measurement in Science Lesson 1:  Introduce vocabulary and Metric Prefixes.

Complete chart on page 39.  Read Pages 39-47 in class.

Thursday:  Review Metric Prefixes and complete worksheets on measuring in class.  Continue working on instruments and their units of measurements.

Friday:  Continue working on measurements and instruments.  Read Lesson 3

Graphs  Read Pages 56-61.  Complete graph in class.  Review instruments.

 



August 27-August 31 Class Assignments
Due Date: 8/31/2018
Subject: Science 6

Monday:  Chapter 1  Lesson One Vocabulary  6.1 due on Monday.

Vocabulary Words:  science      observing      quantitative observation       qualitative observation      inferring         predicting        classifying      making models    evaluating     scientific investigation

Using their textbooks students started looking up the vocabulary on Wednesday in class and they are to be completed on Monday.

Read Lesson 1 orally in class and review.  6.1 Scientific Method will continue throughout the school year.

Introduce Vocabulary Flashcards    Vocabulary Quiz on Friday

Tuesday:  Review Vocabulary on the Flashcards and number on back.  Students will use flashcards to study.  Answering Scientific Questions Lesson 3  Pages 18-26  Read in class.  Homework:  Study Vocabulary Flashcards.

Wednesday:  Review Vocabulary Flashcards and watch video on Scientific Investigation.

Discuss and Review.  Go over Review and Assessment and check for understanding.  

Thursday:  Go over review questions and check for understanding.   Review vocabulary and students will studying in pairs using their flashcards.

Friday:  Vocabulary Quiz and Standards of Learning Oral Review
